Roadless rule reinstated

Roadless rule changes over time U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced Thursday that he will temporarily take over management decisions involving construction in 58 million acres of wild roadless land in national forests, including more than 6 million acres of roadless land in Montana. "This interim directive will provide consistency and clarity that will help protect our national forests until a long-term policy reflecting President Obama's commitment

Obama to announce auto mileage, emissions standards

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama is asking consumers to put their money -- up to $1,300 per new vehicle by 2016 -- behind his plan for higher efficiency standards for cars and trucks and tougher rules on their greenhouse gas emissions. In return, Obama said Tuesday in unveiling the plan, drivers would make up the higher cost of more fuel-efficient, cleaner vehicles by buying less gas at the pump.

Obama seeks $100M in government 'efficiencies'

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Monday ordered his Cabinet to find ways to slice spending by $100 million, but acknowledged it's a "drop in the bucket" and said there's a "confidence gap" that he needs to overcome.
